Livestock Show Day Checklist

The stuff that's easy to forget when you're focused on the animal -- paperwork, packing, and logistics, all in one list.

Paperwork

  • Entry confirmation / exhibitor number
  • Health certificate / vet papers, if required
  • Registration papers, if applicable
  • Ownership/possession deadline proof
  • ID (yours and, if required, a parent/guardian's)

Animal care

  • Feed for the full duration of the show, plus a buffer day
  • Water buckets and a way to haul water
  • Hay or bedding materials
  • Medications, if any are currently prescribed
  • Grooming supplies and show equipment (halters, clippers, etc.)

Logistics

  • Trailer inspected and hooked up the night before
  • Confirmed check-in and show time windows
  • Stall/pen assignment, if already posted
  • Show clothes, cleaned and packed
  • Cash or card for on-site expenses

The week before

  • Final weigh-in to confirm the animal is in the target weight class
  • Trailer-load practice if the animal hasn't trailered recently
  • Confirm who's responsible for what (driving, unloading, showing)
