Livestock Show Day Checklist
The stuff that's easy to forget when you're focused on the animal -- paperwork, packing, and logistics, all in one list.
Paperwork
- Entry confirmation / exhibitor number
- Health certificate / vet papers, if required
- Registration papers, if applicable
- Ownership/possession deadline proof
- ID (yours and, if required, a parent/guardian's)
Animal care
- Feed for the full duration of the show, plus a buffer day
- Water buckets and a way to haul water
- Hay or bedding materials
- Medications, if any are currently prescribed
- Grooming supplies and show equipment (halters, clippers, etc.)
Logistics
- Trailer inspected and hooked up the night before
- Confirmed check-in and show time windows
- Stall/pen assignment, if already posted
- Show clothes, cleaned and packed
- Cash or card for on-site expenses
The week before
- Final weigh-in to confirm the animal is in the target weight class
- Trailer-load practice if the animal hasn't trailered recently
- Confirm who's responsible for what (driving, unloading, showing)
